| I would like to add to my previous review, item 6) All hosting accounts are paid a month in advance. If you cancel your account before the next billing period, they will charge you for the following month. It is in the TOS. However, it is illegal if a client terminates an account, early and paid in full, and then be billed for an additional months service. WIth the exception, if you are under contract (which you are not with Vortech) a company may charge an early termination fee. |

| Great Support, Good Price a Few Drawbacks [ Posted on 21 June 2005 ] |

| 1) The pricing is great. 2) Regardless of what anyone has posted Vortech offers great support. a. they answer the phone. b. they speak english. c. e-mail support is fast. d. the support forums are excellent.
3) The billing department stinks. I signed on for a $35 a month plan and pay $39 a month. After several calls to the billing department, over many months, I was always referred to their lousy online billing invoice.
4) When it comes to software they are always up to date and on top of security issues.
5) However, if there is a security issue with CRON or PHP, they don't fix the problem, they shut down culprit, thus it has broken a lot of sites. As a web developer, you might find yourself working for free fixing your clients broken site on the spur of the moment. |

| Bad customer service and an unreliable network - I was with Vortech for 6 months, and I'm glad I am free!

| This article acts as though they built this facility themselves or something. Actually, they rent space in the server room. They don't even have a physical office, everyone works out of their house. The problem this causes is that they have hundreds (thousands?) of customers and only a few employees... so you can guess how good the customer support is. If you don't plan on being a big spender with them don't even bother trying to get support.
One example to leave you with: When they were moving servers from one room to another, instead of contacting me to ask for my root password to shut down my server, they just pulled the plug... with no warning to me whatsoever. My customers called asking where their websites went. Vortech must have assumed it would only be a few minutes so it didn't matter. Well, when they just pulled the plug, the hard drive got corrupted and the machine didn't boot up in the new room. It took them over 3 days with me continually calling and emailing for them to get around to fixing my server--with no apology or compensation. |
